On Tuesday, there may be localized flooding, mainly in areas with poor drainage. Municipal officials are working in advance to clean drainage channels and keep main thoroughfares open.
Residents are asked to report a clogged drain to 311, and if it is safe to do so, to clear it themselves.
At the same time, authorities are monitoring forecast changes in case the chance of snow accumulation increases in certain parts of the city. Emergency units are preparing for any scenario and are gearing up to respond accordingly.
NYC Emergency Management will activate the city's flash flood emergency plan. It notes that the city faces a variety of hazards year-round, including heavy rain, flooding, winter storms, extreme heat, and earthquakes.
The organization urges residents to prepare through three key steps: building a family emergency plan, preparing necessary equipment for an extended stay at home or for a quick exit, and staying informed through municipal alert systems.
As part of the preparation, residents are advised to prepare an emergency kit for a quick exit that includes water, dry food, important documents protected in sealed envelopes, essential medications, basic emergency equipment, and supplies for animals. In addition, it is recommended to have seven days' worth of equipment and food at home.
